Banner ads celebrate their 25th birthday this week and the much-maligned digital tactic has grown up quite a bit. It was a hard-coded ad for AT&T served before the first commercial browser had even been released. Now, banners are dynamic, free-flowing, data-infused, heavily optimized messengers of all kinds of messaging types and sizes. Whether direct sold, programmatic or run through Google, Social or Amazon, banners are still alive but don’t look like they did as a baby.
