The confusion, angst and overall annoyance related to privacy legislation is real. Europe tried to take a leadership position with GDPR but can’t even get all of the EU on board on the execution. Canada, California, China, India and others are popping in with their own, causing distress and confusion in their wake. Apple muddied the waters further with iOS 14 and its recent privacy-centered restructuring.
We need federal legislation, I begged during our AMIDA conference last month. That’s a real likelihood given the recent changes in Washington. What it looks like, who knows? It will be better than nothing, but what we really need to do is learn from our mistakes and share them with all other industries.
